First described in 1824, Drosera lunata is a tuberous sundew native to Tropical and Subtropical Asia and Eastern Australia. Its extensive range includes the Philippines, where it has been recorded on Luzon and Mindoro islands. It was formerly classified as a variety of Drosera peltata until reinstated as a separate species in 2012. Drosera lunata can be distinguished most clearly from other similar-looking species within the Drosera peltata complex by its glabrous (ie. smooth or non-hairy) sepals. Its specific epithet means "crescent-shaped", referring to the shape of its sticky leaves.
